Dr Chungui Lu is a Professor of Sustainable Agriculture and director of Centre for Intelligent Growth Solutions in the School of Animal, Rural & Environmental Sciences at Nottingham Trent University (NTU). He gained his PhD in Plant Molecular Biology at the University of Nottingham (UoN). Following 3 years postdoc position at the Bangor University and 3 years research as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol and Rothamsted Research, he took up a joint post as a Lecturer at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University in 2006. Prior to joining NTU, Chungui was Director of the Centre for Urban Agriculture at UoN.
He leads Sustainable Agriculture Research Group at NTU. His research focuses on vertical farming and sustainable food (enhanced nutritional value in crops using different LED light spectra and nutrients), whilst optimizing crop performance. Recently, his group has developed light and nutrient recipes for precision and smart farming using AI and machine/deep learning. He has published over 100 papers and been awarded over £6.8 million research funding in last few years from innovate UK, STFC, EU Commission and Industrials, and UK HIGHER EDUCATION 2021 - PAPIN PRIZES.
